The process

start my Build

Burl & Griffin is my design studio and workshop.

I design and build custom timber slab furniture, focused on material, contrast, and real purpose.

I’m Josh, a Canberra woodworker and firefighter. In the workshop, I often pair clean, sharp edges with raw natural edges and hand-set brass details. Combining structured geometry with organic timber grain which gives each piece a balance that feels both natural and modern, classic and timeless.

Nothing is rushed and nothing is mass produced.

The heart of my work goes deeper than wood. After losing my dad to suicide when I was 19, supporting men’s mental health became central to everything I make. Every build helps fund mental health initiatives and sparks real conversations beyond the shop floor.

I just try to build honest pieces properly and let the materials speak.
